Keeping your seed phrase secure

When creating a cold wallet (e.g. Trust Wallet, MetaMask) or a hardware-based wallet (e.g. Ledger, Trezor), you will receive a seed phrase (or mnemonic seed). This phrase is a series of words that you must store securely and keep a secret at all times.

Some tips :

  • Ideally, you should avoid storing your phrase on a computer or in the Cloud, not even as an image. The best method is to write the words down on a piece of paper.

  • Never reveal your seed phrase, as this must remain a secret and kept in a secure place. To prevent your seed phrase from being lost in the event that the material it is written on is destroyed, you should keep two copies in different places.

  • At least once, try using your seed phrase that you have written down to access your wallet. By doing so, you will ensure there are no errors.

  • Beware of phishing! No application or system will ever ask spontaneously you for your seed phrase. Never give this out for any reason.

  • If you need to find out and save your seed phrase once again, you can find it in your wallet's security settings.
